My mom freaks out when I wear guys’ clothes?
I’m 17, lesbian, and I’ve always been more of the tomboy/ skater type. Since I’ve been old enough to choose my own clothes, I’ve worn more boyish women’s clothes. Since last year, I’ve started to wear (size appropriate, not baggy) guys’ clothes- like jeans and t-shirts. As a teen, my older sister was a major girly-girl, and competed in beauty pageants. It drives my mom crazy that I don’t care for dresses, purses, and loads of make-up. I think she wanted to use me as a Barbie doll, dressing me up for entertainment. I feel like a cross-dresser when I wear girly stuff. How can I make her understand it’s nothing personal against her, this is just the way I am?
Its a shame that your mum doesnt just leave you to be the way you are. I consider myself a bit of a tomboy, cos i wear baggy t-shirts and jeans and trainers – though my mum says im girlie cos i wear makeup and paint my nails haha. Id say you just have to sit down and talk to her about it. Try to be calm and dont get angry or anything and just explain that it suits your personality and it is who you are. Say you feel most comfortable when you are wearing clothes that you choose. Maybe explain to her that you dont care what clothes she wears, and that she shouldnt care what clothes you wear. You could also ask her if she prefered if you walked around half naked all the time wearing slutty clothes. Im pretty sure she would like you to dress just the way you are. Good luck
