truck cab dolly
2002 tacoma v6 towing?

i have a 2002 quad cab tacoma rwd auto V6
[edmunds.com specs]
Curb Weight: 3475 lbs.
Gross Weight: 5100 lbs.

want to tow from NC to NJ via I-95 about 8 hour drive

95 supra NA 5 speed
[edmunds.com specs]
Curb Weight: 3215 lbs.

truck shows to have a hitch on it with the 4 wire plug. says Reese 6000lbs
is this doable?…assuming i rent the trailer form uhual or somewhere else.
should i look into a full carrier or a dolly? im thinking a dolly would be lighter.
should i install a transmission cooler?

thank you
found out the gvrw of supra is 4275lbs
where does this leave me? and use dolly or trailer? dont do it?

would this be different if i had the newer style tacoma quad cab?

thanks

I once towed my BMW Z3 from NH to VA with my ’94 Toyota 1/2 ton (precursor to the Tacoma). First, make sure that your truck is equipped with the tow package (including extra radiator fan), and if you are still not sure about the additional weight limits, see if the hitch rental company can help you.

When I towed the car, U-Haul actually had a crew of nice guys that contacted their contacts at the local dealership to make sure that the weight of the hitch (I ended up using a tow dolly) plus the car did not overwhelm my truck’s engine.

And IMHO, try to time your drive so that you enter Jersey either mid-morning or evening after rush hour. Your starting and braking times will be slightly affected by the additional weight of the car and tow dolly, and the road lanes will seem a lot narrower with the additional length of the two vehicles that you will be in control of.
