Car Rental USA Insurance?
I am getting really annoyed with trying to get a quote for car rental in USA. For basic rental I have been quoted $200. But then there are all the insurances:
Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)
Personal Accident and Effects (PAE)
What do I actually need to have as they are really expensive!!! Adding just the first two takes my rental up to $500.
I am very confused. What legally do I have to have? Someone told me the US insurance is strange cos you can get sued for an accident and end up paying thousands of dollars out to the person you hit. Can I just get insurance through my own car insurance here in the UK rather than paying $300 dollars??
Also can someone please explain what the above insurances actually mean??
Get all the insurance you can as the basic cover could see you massively out of pocket in the event of a crash.
It is priced like this as a lot of US citizens have hire car cover in their own car insurance so can use the basic price.
You cannot insure it in the UK
Check your travel insurance as some parts like personal accident and effects are in that.
Yes US car hire looks cheap at first but you do need at least 2 of those add ons
