Vague memory of an animated movie from the 1980′s…?
Similar to another question on here, I also watched this about the same time I was watching The Last Unicorn. The scene was dark, and a waifish blonde girl is being menaced by a witch in either a glade of trees or a circle of stones…then there’s a sense of them floating in time and space?? Super vague. Also, something about a string of paper dolls being cut out and then they get up and dance around. My boyfriend seems to think that he knows what I’m talking about and thinks there might be a beanstalk in it too….
This is driving me nuts! I’d appreciate any help.
EDIT: I was just chosen Best Answer for another question similar to this…could the movie be “A Journey Through Fairyland” (1985)? Here are some photos from the film: http://www.angelfire.com/ca6/unico/Voilets.html
Is it “The Elm Chanted Forest”? I used to love that movie when I was a kid…it was made in 1986. I think it had a beanstalk in it, if I remember correctly.
Plot summary: When artist Peter Palette falls asleep under the enormous elm that is the spirit of the forest, he acquires magical powers, including the ability to talk to animals. He learns from them that the evil Emperor Spine, a cactus, is planning to reduce the forest to a desert. Spine burns down a large section of the woods and floods a lot more of it by annoying King Neptune, but all the damage somehow vanishes. Peter decides that Spine is unhappy because he’s never been able to fulfill his nature and blossom; he slips the Emperor a magic potion that causes him to burst into bloom, and all ends happily.
Sound familiar? Here is what the cover looked like: http://i3.iofferphoto.com/img/1134979200/_i/9854072/1.jpg
