Why use the word artist when applied to musicians, or Damien Hurst types?
The way I left my unmade bed this morning was an expression of my laziness, and it is thought provoking, maybe. If someone buys my unmade bed, for one million dollars, does it become art and me an artist?
If I sit at the piano playing all the right notes in the wrong order, would I also become an artist?
I feel musican covers it, capable of expression using music., be it good or bad musican.
I don`t think of classic composers, such as Tchaikovsky, are artists either, just great composers of music.
I wonder if anyone agrees?
or can justify an argument to keep calling musicians
( especially elton john, p diddy etc) and Damien Hurst and friends, Artists?
If they are just Musicians, or not producing art ;above the standard of my unmade bed, should we not refer to these people as artists. Its insulting to the true creative artists!
music is a form of art. when playing original pieces,the sound comes from within thus making it an expression of myself. But it takes discipline, creativity and frustration to form this expression. Not making the bed is just that, no thought put into it etc….
