What exactly is a Presidential coin?
Not the dollar mint ones i keep seeing every search engine mention, but the ones that Obama presented to the familes of the deceased at Ft. Hood. My neighbor mentioned and showed me one that he received one form the elder Bush, and got me wondering what it is and what does one do or not do to receive one. So many soldiers dying, just wondering do all families receive these.
I believe they are known as challenge coins even though they are actually medals. It seems to be a relatively new military/law enforcement practice for officers to give these to lower ranking officers/enlisted for various reasons. I hope that helps.
