Should defenders and Goal Keepers be dropped from football and more strikers and midfielders be played?
Is the modern game now incompatible with real defending? should defenders and goal keepers be replaced with more attacking midfielders and strikers? should the Wenger rule be brought in that a player must not be touched when he enters the opposition half? Will we ever see the Great defenders of the past in a game where players like Messi, Fabregas are so protected they look so good only because they cannot be tackled like the greats like Best and Pele?

Great question! It always makes me laugh when some people say great players like Best and Pele couldn’t live with today’s footballers because “they’re so much fitter”. Believe me, if players such as George Best, Jimmy Greaves, and Denis Law had the protection from defenders that referees give attacking players these days, they would absolutely annihilate everything in the division. Wenger used to make me laugh, but now his whinging just smacks of desperation because he hasn’t won a trophy for years. He knows he has no physical presence in his team so he wants the rules changed to favour them. I don’t remember him wanting less physical contact when he had his midfield enforcers of Viera and Petit (and one of the worst disciplinary records in the premier league).
