Why is the U.S. switching it’s broadcasting from analog to digital? ?
I searched for a while on the net for a logical reason why this switch is going to happen but never seemed to find a straight forward answer other than this is what the government wants. I never complained as a kid if the picture was fuzzy, we just added aluminum foil or my brother would con me into playing with my barbie dolls next to the stupid antenna, or sometimes we would hook up metal hangers! The picture was free! No complaints! My mom and dad couldn’t afford cable back in the early 80′s and that is just how life worked. Now you will need to hook up a converter box to use even more electricity?
Free TV is NOT dead. It is and will still be there! The only difference is the method of delivery.
Analog TV was invented in the 1930s. Can you name one thing from the 1930s that we still use? Digital allows for more features and, because it can handle multiple programs, should save energy on the transmitting end because programs can be combined into one signal.
At the same time, the government is using this as an opportunity to rearrange thing making room for cellular and public safety.
The US isn’t the only country changing to digital. Actually pretty much the whole world is changing; the US will just be one of the first to complete the change. And the converter box will not be noticable on your electric bill.
