Since 1980, Mattel Inc. has produced numerous versions of it’s best selling product, the Barbie doll: Jamaican, Nigerian, and Kenyan Barbie; Malaysian, Chinese, and Indian Barbie; Mexican, Brazillian, Puerto Rican, Hawaiian,Eskimo, Japanese, and Native American, and on and on.
Barbie owns 100% brand recognition among girls aged 3 to 10, 96 percent of whom own at least one doll, and most owning more.
In 1989 nearly 500 million Barbies had been sold, along 200 million G.I.Joes. 800 million sold by 1994. following year 1 billion were sold. Now, nearly two barbies are every second somewhere in the world; about half of the dolls are purchased in US.

I have actually NEVER owned a Barbie. I grew up in a pre-Barbie era and never really got into them. Now Teddy Bears–that’s a different story!
