CONFEDERATE HALF DOLLAR
Following the secession from the Union in 1861, the federal mint was taken over by the Government of Louisiana. Jefferson Davis authorized production of a Confederate HalfDollar by taking ordinary half dollars & removing their reverse motif. Only four specimens were struck. Restrikes were made by J.W.
