Towing a Jeep cherokee on a tow dolly?
Were going jeepin in two weeks and my jeep can’t do freeway speeds so were trying to find a trailer to tow my jeep to moab. last year we had my cousin use his dualy to pull a big 8000 lbs. vehicle trailer with my jeep on it and my dad used his tundra to pull my cousins jeep. we just had a trailer hitch that mounts to the front leaf springs, and that pushed my dads truck all over the road. We want to use a tow dolly because they are the cheapest thing but we hear it will do kind of the same thing as last year with the jeep, and my dad doesn’t want to be fighting to keep his truck going straight for 8 hours. (part of it was he had bad ball joints so his stearing was wacked) So how is towing with a tow dolly, & is it going to push us all over the road.
If your jeep is 4WD you can’t use a tow dolly unless you disconnect the driveshaft to whichever axle is on the ground. A Jeep was designed to be flat towed (all 4 wheels on the ground) without having to disconnect any drivetrain components. If you don’t want to flat tow the jeep get a flatbed trailer.
