Not being literate in Indonesian, I plugged the article’s text into a translation engine, and I could still find nothing that indicates anything about un-burned clothing. The incident you are talking about- this occurred in the most RECENT Merapi eruption?
I found some articles about deaths related to the 1996 eruption, wherein rescue workers trapped inside of a concrete bunker were literally roasted alive when hot ash buried the structure and turned it into an oven (good grief). While the article didn’t say anything to this effect, it occurs to me that rescue/emergency response personnel usually wear heat-resistant/flame-retardant clothing, like the turnout geat firemen wear. Especially without exposure to direct flames, it IS possible for such clothing to survive through temperatures that would kill and, uh, “thermally alter” the wearer. A lot of emergency personnel are killed in these events, and many are equipped with such clothing. To expose yourself to such a deadly and unforgiving hell of an environment to save other people- Man, these guys are as heroic as they come.
Dying like that is a ghastly thing to contemplate. I will have nightmares tonight, for sure.

The first includes Indonesian-speaking students enrolled in an English Language Program (ELP), an English as a Foreign Language…
