Should we hire Orkin or Do It Ourselves??!!?
Today we rolled a dolly over a hole in the yard, which come to find out was the hole leading to a Wasp nest (I believe it was Wasps, as they were black & big, rather than stung.)
Well needless to say, me and my daughter were both bit repeatedly on the legs and they chased us right to the front door.
My question is…we have played outside all summer and never have been bit, but since we ran over the hole with a dolly, we disturbed them. I called Orkin and they are going to charge $280 to come out tomorrow and spray them/kill them.

Is it worth if to pay them to come out and spray that hole and the 20+ other holes which may or may not contain Wasps/Bees?
*opps I mean that they were black and *bit* us.
If you have the money I’d pay the professionals. It’s going to take many cans of wasp/hornet spray and there’s the danger that you’ll get stung badly and have to go to the ER and there’s always the danger of having an allergic reaction (anaphelactic shock). As the other poster said, spray at dusk and it’s going to take more than one application because there are many wasps in the ground in the hive working or feeding and protecting the queen and the workers are not going to stop until the queen is gone. I had an infestation in my garden and they just kept coming out of 1 or 2 holes–when they subsided for a bit I threw dirt on the holes and they still dug their way out. Make sure you are well covered and try not to be fearful. The spray cans spray the poison pretty far so you don’t have to get up real close to the holes, but they’ll come after you. Don’t run or scream–move fast to safety but don’t wave your arms and jump around. Very dangerous so be very cautious if you DIY.
