Are Feminists Eradicating the Hepburn-like Beauty of Girls Toys?
I’m currently in a Feminist class at my university and we are reading a book called “Pink Think” which criticizes feminine toys of the 50s/60s eras. It criticized a maxi pad package that had an elegant, beautiful woman wearing a long, pink ballgown. They were upset that the maxi pad was in a pink package. They also criticize the “mystery date” game and a pink, mini kitchen for girls to play with.
The author had photographs of various feminine toys and I had a feeling of nostalgia. I LOVE feminine things. When I was a kid the Barbie isle was huge and Barbie had a bunch of friends and beautiful ball-gowns and lots of fashion accessories….now the Barbies of today and basically tom-boys and don’t wear gowns or dresses, just a few essential dresses.
Why do feminists want to eradicate the color pink from children’s toys? Having a toy kitchen as a kid made me happy.
What do you think??
a true feminist does not loath femininity or discourage choice. You can be a feminist and have children and want to spend time with them. you can wear a dress or pants.
Being a feminist means it is up to you, as a woman, to be true to yourself and build a life that makes you happy and fulfilled.
