Should we judge movies based on their earnings?
OK, I know a lot of people at my school who defend movies such as Transformers 2 and GI Joe by saying that, “They made a lot of money, so they had to have been good!”
And yet, movies like Office Space ($10.8 million overall) and The Hurt Locker ($12.7 million) don’t make as much money, but are seen as much better films.
My question is, should a film be judged by how much it grosses at the box office, and if so, why?
No.
It’s hard to judge what is going to be a good movie. Sometimes critics praise it or the actors’ peformances but it may still be a flop or critics pan it and it goes on to make millions.
It’s all about individual tastes. Movies I consider some of my faves people on here vehemently hate them- haha.
In order for it to be considered a success, it usually needs to make at least double what it was made with. But that shouldn’t determine a movie’s worth…
