ghost doll wig
I need help with my BJD’s faceup?

Okay hi so.

I’m going to be ordering my first BJD within the next few days.
It’s going to be a Hujoo Wings Boy, or -Punk- Boy, I don’t remember.

But, since the full set was limited, I can only buy the head+body one. Which comes with no faceup, no eyes, wig, clothes…

But the most important thing is the faceup.
I have never done a faceup, seeing as this is my first doll. I know most use paint, but that’s very scary because I know I’ll make mistakes. And I want his faceup to be dark, being that his character is a ghost…

How should I do a faceup without paint? Makeup, other…?

Or better, is there a BJD site in which I can send my doll to them to have it’s faceup made for me?
Hopefully it isn’t too expensive…

Thanks for reading, I hope you can help me out.

I think Hujoo Wing is made out of plastic, not resin. I just checked – yes ABS plastic.

I do not know if the same fine lacquer precoat and sealant (MR Super Clear Flat, MR Super Clear UV Cut Flat) can be used on plastic. I am pretty sure you need to use the same stuff. Note – this stuff is super toxic. You are supposed to use a real full face.gas mask with it. I cheat and use it outside, away from all people, pets, food, water. It must a a warm dry day with no breeze. I wear eye protection, protect where I plan to be spraying, and I do not breath. You have to remove the head. Then wash the head first in sink dishwashing liquid, rinse totally and let it air-dry totally – must be totally clean and dry. I make a sturdy crunch foil stand to hold the head with the face looking up a bit so I’ll be able to spray straight at it. Shake extremely well. Start and end your sprays off tot he side of the face to prevent clumps. Start off to the side, and go lightly back and forth from about 1.5 feet away cross the face and trying to get all of the face including the sides. As so as you see the slightest shimmer of wetness you are done. Then I step far away and breathe. I do two coats so I usually nring the head inside to prevent dust/dirt/pollen from getting on it. When totally dry, I do again. When that coat is dry, you do the faceup. When the faceup is done you would coat twice again. And you cannot use Liquitex or other acrylic spray. If a fine lacquer spray for models like MR Super Clear is what is used, then you need to use that kind of spray. I mail order it from http://www.Plajapan.com/ (a US company)

Junkyspot sells Hujoos and also the vinyl/plastic Obitsus so you could ask in their forum if MR Super Clear is what you should use on Wing.

As for faceups, there are many tutorials on Youtube and you should be able to find some on the web. Just search for things like:

BJD faceup tutorial
BJD makeup tutorial
BJD faceup guide (or walkthrough or tips etc)
etc.

People have all different styles. You can ignore the airbrush ones unless you own an airbrush. You needs to use all non-oily media. You use come combination of acrylic paints (usually diluted with water or flow enhancer), chalk/soft pastels (not oil pastels), and watercolor pencils (not regular colored pencils). Some people do almost the whole faceup in pastels, using a rectangular white art eraser to clean up and define the edges of the pastel-colored areas. So look at a bunch of tutorials to see a bunch of different ways.

And do not use Winsor and Newton brush cleaner for anything unless you are trying to remove a whole faceup, including MR Super Clear (aka MSC). it is too strong to use as a brush cleaner when painting a BJD.
