American Idol judges always say the song is “too old for you”, then they do Rolling Stones week. WTF?
I’m so sick of their double talk. They always do things like Motown week, and have “mentors” like one of the Bee Gees, Barry Manilow, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Smokey Robinson, Dolly Parton, Randy Travis, Berry Gordy Jr., Rod Stewart, Neil Diamond…….SERIOUSLY!?!?!?
They want the contestants to be able to take older songs, but interpret them into their voice and style and make them sound younger and more current (if they do more current stuff, they’ll be compared too much to the original artist). That’s how they separate the true artists from Karaoke singers who just sing the song exactly how it was recorded.
Remember Adam Lambert’s version of Smokey’s “Tracks of My Tears”

or David Cook’s version of Lionel Richie’s “Hello” ?

Stuff like that. That’s what they’re looking for.
I just hope the current crop get it and give us some interesting new spins on Stones classics. Should be interesting
. I can’t wait.
