Will I look much different from local Aussies cause I look Hispanic?
I’m going to Australia in January for about 3-5 months to work. I am kind of nervous though because I get the feeling that I might not fit in well there. Mainly cause I look VERY Hispanic/Latino/Italian. As soon as people see me they say I look very Southern European or Mediterranean. From what I see from images and hear word of mouth, that many of the women out in Australia are white bleached blonde or brunette barbie dolls, and they tend to have a similar look.
Is this true or just a stereotype?
It all depends on how immature the Australians you run into are. I live in México an I certainly don’t fit into the image the rest of the world has of us. I’m not even that sure how an Hispanic person looks like, or which skin color he or she should have.
Don’t worry about what MAY happen, just be yourself, and remember, if you don’t know who someone is, don’t pay attention to what that someone says, specially when it is an upset customer.
Before the English arrived to what we today know as Australia, other people had being living there (aboriginals). As in other countries around the world, Australians are all shapes and colors, so there is no need to worry, instead use your hispanic features, even if you are not one, to your favor.
