Letting a 3yo boy buy a doll – yay or nay?
I was in a toy shop today (the Early Learning Centre), and I overheard a heated debate between a mother and her 3yo son, who were standing by the dolls and doll accessories. It turned out that the boy had just had a birthday, and had been taken to the ELC to spend his birthday as he wanted. Well, he wanted a doll but his mother was trying her hardest to put him off, even going as far to say he would get teased by his friends. The boy was getting pretty upset by it.
(I was standing nearby and the mother clocked me, rolled her eyes as if to say “kids, pfft!” and just explained what was going on… maybe out of embarassment, I don’t know).
So, would you let your 3yo buy a doll with their own birthday money? Or try & put them off?
Yes, I would. Boys take care of babies too!
My almost 2 year old son has several. He even pretends to nurse them. (gasp)
