Doll Mimics Breastfeeding

doll mimics breastfeeding
How would you deal with this?

My daughter went to a friends house for a play date last week and when she came home she kept talking about how she saw Mrs. (last name) breastfeed her new baby. Normally this wouldn’t bother me except that now she is lifting her shirt up in public places and pretending to breastfeed her dolls. She is also doing thins with her barbies and stuffed animals.

I don’t know what to do. I want her to see breastfeeding as normal behavior, but at the same time I don’t want her mimicking this behavior or feeling shame about her body.

Just be honest with her. Tell her that breast feeding a baby, is a very special action between a mother and her baby. When she has a baby one day, she will be able to breast feed the baby, if she wants to. Now she must wait until she is older, when she has a baby of her own.

I would not tell her to stop doing it, because that will make her more curious. Just take her mind off the subject by giving her something interesting to do, or take her for an ice cream as a treat. In time she will forget all about it if you do not press the point too much.

Also talk to the lady concerned tell her what is happening, and ask if when your daughter was at her house, not breastfeed the baby in front of her, until she has stopped mimicking her. Hopefully, the lady will agree with you.
