cabbage patch dolls how old are they?
I recently aquired 2 cabbage patch dolls that are slightly longer in size to the one made since the 1980s. there are also several other differencesyet a friend of mine who collects them and has for many years says the heads are deffinenatly cabbage patch doll heads. i say that they are deffenatly factory made by the way the body is attached to the head. now what is different beside the larger size is the color, they are more natual skin toned, not quite as peachy looking as todays dolls. also, they have no toes, belly bottons, or threads that form the butt cheaks. the last difference is that the dolls do not have the makers trade mark signature printed on their butts. these dolls also have no imprints of a year or manufactuar on the back of their heads. their hair is made of yarn. is it possible that these dolls could have been some of the very first ever made? or made in another counrty, before they became such a craze here in the U.S.A. in the 1980s?
Xavier Robert’s hand sewed Cabbage Patch Kids starting in 1978 and he started signing them and issuing Birth Certificates in 1979. In 1983 Coleco issued the first plastic head CPK and subsequent to that, several foreign countries and factories officially made them too. Jesmar in Spain, Tri Ang Pedigree in South Africa, Lily Ledi in Mexico, Tsukuda in Japan and several factories in China all made the plastic head CPK.
When Coleco stopped production, Mattel, Hasbro, Toys R Us , Jaks Pacific and Play Along made CPK modernly.
All authentic plastic head CPK have copyright marks on the backs of their heads and signatures on their bottom. They also have side tags with manufacturer information.
