Moving to a PDS?
My husband and I will be moving to his PDS at the end of June. I have heard about the DITY moves and I have also heard that the military hires and pays a company to move you. We will be moving from Michigan to California so its quite a distance to cover and is going to cost around $3500 for gas, truck rental and dolly to haul our car. We would both rather have them move us since it is such a large distance to travel. Is it true that they will pay to move you and hire people to do it or are they all DITY moves and then they reimburse you. Also, if we do hire a company to move us or the military does…do we pay out of pocket and then its reimbursed or no? Im not quite sure how this works since he has only been in schooling. Any other info about this would be great too
ok they hire the people to move you…you just do the paperwork on whether its that type of move or a dity move. they only reimburse you for the dity move thats where you move yourself..it sucks dont try it…lol but now you could say you are doing a dity move and hire a moving company i dont think you would save anything i think you would pay alot more..the military will only give you something like 75 -90 percent i cannot remember the exact figure but they tax it for the dity move..so you can make something but normally its not worth the hassle….when we moved from nc to south georgia..i looked at getting a tractor trailor and actually it was cheaper than the uhaul with gas etc..the problem for us was they would drop it one day..we had to load it..they wouldnt help us..and they would pick it up the next..and then the same thing when it got to georgia..and actually in the end it was about 500dollars cheaper than with two uhauls..but the time frame wasnt doable…
