Remote control video camera dolly system – is there such a thing?
Hi,
Is there such a thing as a remote control camera dolly for a meeting room that can be controlled from a viewing room at the back?
I have been searching but not finding.
So far I have seen dolly systems that need an operator behind them, and I have seen remote swivelling cameras that are jerky and noisy but nothing that comes close to what I’m looking for: that elegant sweeping movement of a tracking shot.
Help! Please!

automated camera supports, usually pedestals, are used widely in television news studios. because a news broadcast follows predictable sequence, they are easy to program for robotic moves. as for tracking shots, you would never program a robot camera to do that because it would be nearly impossible to predict the precise movement of the talent. they are not cheap to buy and install.
i would recommend you reconsider PTZ cameras. instead of the surveilence types which are the noisy jerky kind, look at the teleconference types which you can even get in HD formats. A PTZ setup has more remote functions that a simple tripod remote head, for example they can zoom and focus.
