How is this for a start of a story?

I wearily looked up from my book and up at the grandfather clock standing proud against the blood splattered wall. It was the only thing still alive in this decrepit building, the only thing still awake and working as it should. I closed my eyes and listened to the clock tick the seconds away, the sound of life itself. I tried to remember a time when this house was a home, when it was full of life, full of love, full to the brim with laughter and excitement. Not the empty building it is now, full of nothing except empty echoes and empty promises.
I’m not the type to accuse, but I do blame her for this. It was fine until she turned up with her doll-like features and her perfect porcelain skin. Without Yuki Snow, things would undoubtedly be very different now. I probably wouldn’t be alone now, in an empty house, shrouded in my own silence and grief.
