Yes, I am black but this is not offensive to me. Should it be?
Costco is selling a black baby called Lil Monkey. The baby is dressed in an outfit that says Lil Monkey across her forehead and her pet is a monkey. My mom, sisters, aunts, cousins, and grandma is very offended by it and many many many other black people. But to me I think its cute.
My sister pointed out the fact that ONLY the black baby is being called Lil Monkey and non others. Should that then make it offensive to me?

Clearly it is the MONKEY that is being called “Lil Monkey”. The human doll is not the monkey. The monkey is coloured so as to look like a monkey does, not like a human does. The head band and other accessories all refer to the product name, not the human doll’s name. (If I were that toy’s designer, I would not have done it that way though, because of the confusion.) The doll’s name apparently is whatever the child decides to call her.
I would be more concerned that it might teach little kids that it is okay to have monkeys as a pet. Monkeys do not really make good pets.
