What is a reborn doll?

I’m not a collector or know anything really about dolls but while looking to purchase a good quality, life-like baby doll, I noticed the term “reborn” dolls especially the brand Berenguer. What are reborn dolls?

The artist buys a plain doll and then paints the skin, facial features, puts in eyes, eyelashes, hair, dresses it, and sells it as reborn.
