What is your favorite childhood memory from Christmas?
A recent question about boxes got me to thinking of when I was a kid. I remember one Christmas, we had just moved into our new house in November. I think I was 6. My parents had very little money left over to buy gifts so my grandmother’s got together and knitted a bunch of barbie clothes for my sister and I. Mom bought a couple of cheap knock off barbies and my dad made suitcases for the both of us to hold all the clothes. We couldn’t afford a tree so we borrowed grandma’s silver tinsel tree and the three color rotating light. I thought that was the best Christmas ever. New barbies and tons of fancy party dresses, coats, and scarves, and a mod silver tree. We never noticed that our parents didn’t spend a lot of money on us that year.
We don’t get snow where I live. Nearest snow is up the mountains about 1 1/2 hours, not that far. My dad would get up every Christmas morning, super duper early, take his truck up the mountains, shovel snow into the bed, drive it down and put it all over our front lawn. All the neighborhood kids would wake up and come to our house to have snowball fights.
