What laptop would be the best to get?

my mum is looking at getting my little sister (aged 9) a laptop for her birthday, obviouisly not a very expensive one it would only be for her to learn how to type on & play games like barbie on the internet, do very basic school wrk on microsoft word.

It seems like your best option would be what is known as a “netbook”. These are small laptops (9″ to 10″ screens) that still have all the normal functionality of a real laptop. There are several lines of them from different companies: the Asus EEE, Acer ONE, MSI Wind, and Dell Inspiron Mini, for starters. I would recommend doing a search on these and seeing if they will fit your needs.

They start at around $300 and are typically less than $500 or $600.
