Is this Barbie commercial for real?
I just saw this Barbie commercial… Did anyone else see this? The commercial starts with the silhouette of Barbie’s head transforming into one with curly hair, and then introduces three new African-American dolls and shows them with accessories that let you curl and straighten their hair; I think they were called Sisters in Style, or something LIKE that… Um… I don’t know what to make of this… Did anyone else see this…? I would be happy if this was merely an ad for dolls with African-American features; that would be good. But this ad seems to be focusing on stereotypes about black girls–particularly about their hair. Also, the three new girl dolls are completely segregated from Barbie’s clique of friends.
