why is it that I have to ask my 4year daughter 3 or 4 times to pick up after herself? it does’nt phase her to?
say that you will take the toys away etc. for example my husband asked her the other day to pick up her barbie dolls and she had every excuse not too such as I’m tired my knee hurts whatever i know its totally manipulation but how do you handle it ? it can be hard to reason with a 4 year old and she thinks what i say is a joke any suggestions?
Well first of all you have to remember she is 4 lol they all do that. She is not doing it intentionally to make you mad..she just doesnt understand why she has to do something she doesnt want to do. It is part of the learning process and now is the time for her to learn. Like all the others said you dont ask her to you tell her to do it. Every child has a certain punishment that they just hate. My daughter hates to be grounded lol. If you tell her she will have to stay in her room (with no movies no games etc…) she just thinks thats the worst thing that could ever happen to her so if we tell her that she’ll get grounded if she doesnt pick up her room she will pick up her room. So experiment and see what your child responds to the best and use that. Of course we are not doing it to torture our poor children but they have to learn WHY they cant just leave their rooms messy…if u tell her that candy wrapper will draw bugs to her room and on her bed she might just throw it away. Sleeping with bugs is probably not ideal situation for a little girl.If her toy gets stepped on and broke and has to be thrown away because it was on the floor…she might just pick it up. So dont just discipline her, explain to her WHY she has to clean her room and of course the repercussions if she doesnt (grounding, time out, etc…) Just lay down the law because you are the Mommy.
