My mother was a cake decorator forever. She made doll dresses by baking a cake in a tube pan. This may pretty much be done by following any cake recipe. She then made a 2nd cake in a metal bowl which was the same diameter as the bottom of the tube pan. This was a thin layer of a couple inches or so, just enough to make the top curve of the skirt. Make sure your bowl is well greased & floured. This you can test for doneness by checking it with a toothpick. Stick it in the center of the cake and if it comes out clean, it’s done. Just don’t make this layer so thick that the edges dry out before the center is done. After cooling, she then stuck the 2 layers together with frosting and also coated the whole skirt with a base coat of frosting to hold any crumbs in place. She then allowed it to dry overnight before proceeding.Good Luck! Hope this helps!
