I played Barbies for many years, both as a child, and later as a tween, teenager, and adult when I would play with young children. The great thing about Barbies is the possibilities are absolutely endless. Here are just a few of the many “favorite” ideas that we played over the years:
Ice cream parlor – we made it out of a cardboard box that we decorated with stripes of red and white from construction paper. We used spools that beading thread comes on for the bar stools and made a counter out of cardboard. We used little bowls from a Barbie play set and had different people take turns being the “server” at the ice cream parlor. We even put a mini radio behind a coloring page of a juke box to make it seem authentic.
Zoo – we had a blast with this one, we used boxes of different shapes and sizes to make cages, and then put construction paper bars over the front of the “cages”. We put plastic toy animals in the cages, and the Barbies took a visit to the zoo.
Drive In Movie – we took Barbie cars, bikes, motorcycles, and strollers, and set up a drive in movie theater, complete with a flip book style movie on the “big screen”.
Bowling – this was an all time favorite, we set up Barbie bottles as the bowling pins, and used bouncy balls (the mini kind) to let the Barbies bowl them over.
These are just a few of the many ideas that we did. Some other favorites included a photo shoot complete with different outfits and Polaroid “sticker” photos, a soccer game complete with mini jersey shirts made out of Barbie t-shirts with paper numbers taped on them, and a dance complete with music, and a disco ball made out of a silver Christmas tree ornament.
