What toy(s) challenge, educate, and are enjoyed by a 2 year old most?
So, my daughter turns 2 in November, and I have already started planning her a party she will probably forget, but that seems like it’s going to be more exciting than last year. Things I know she is already getting are a tea set, a kitchenette play-set, and she already has a three wheel (she can barely reach the pedals, but she loves it, she’s tall.) Right now her favorite toy is her doll baby and push around stroller.
What do/did your children play with most between 2 and 3 years old?
What do you think was the most challenging toy?
What was the most annoying toy?
What is the most education self play toy?
What are do not gets?
I would like to say you all contributed to help. Thanks a lot. I made this question to help create a list to give to people coming to the party. Again, I love all the answers, and cannot really pick a best answer, I’ll let your votes choose.
My daughter’s turning 2 in November as well. Yeah, we’ve got a party in the makings.
You know those blocks that stack on top of one another and then also nest? She loves those, they’re supposed to be for 2-3, but she just loves them now. I’ve been considering foam or wooden blocks for her as well. Stacking and knocking down, building things for their cars to drive through, all are pretty good in my opinion for a 2 year old.
Cars are a big thing with my older great-nephew (he’s just turned 3) so we got her a few 2 year old type cars, and a race-track to slide them down. It teaches them cause and effect, and they have a great time making the cars go.
My daughter seems to play the most with the boxes, with usable tea-sets (she pours water into the cup and drinks it, and just… lot of pretend play going on there.) and with stuffed animals/babies. I know she’s going to want coloring books this year, more crayons, finger-paints, water-paint-books, etc. And I may consider something like Candyland this year (color recognition, working on taking turns, etc.)
I also know she wants dresses, dress-up type things, pretty shoes, etc. I don’t know about your little girl, but if she opens something like a dress we’ll have to take time out to put the dress on her she’ll be so thrilled.
Bath-water toys, cause and effect type things, are going to be big on my list. As will more puzzles. I’d love to find something like this dolly on the link, she has buttons and zippers and such for teaching little ones about dressing up dolly. Also, there are a lot more musical instruments that open up at 2 with the warning labels that we’ll be getting.
Add: I was in the store with my daughter and thought of a few other things.
Puppets are on her list. And dressup clothes. Now the dress-up clothes I plan on buying when the Halloween costumes go on sale after Halloween. For $20 I can pick up 4-5 different costumes, policeman, frog, doggy, whatever. She’ll have a blast dressing up and pretending, she already tries to now. And I’m always on the lookout for cheap shoes that she’ll play with, she doesn’t care if they’re huge, that makes them more fun if anything.
