Selling Amigurumi (crochet) Patterns of copyrighted characters?
I saw a shop on Etsy and there was a pattern for 3 of the Disney Princesses for sale. Is that Legal? Doesn’t Disney have all the rights to that? I saw another shop with a crocheted doll of The Joker. Isn’t that illegal as well? I am curious because if it isn’t I want to make a shop.
I can assure you Disney does not release rights to small crafters where they have no product control. And I’m betting you if she pulled that on a larger, more regulated site like eBay they would have been yanked already. Thing is, the only thing she’s really risking at this point is a “cease and desist” so she’s probably going to do it until such time. One way to find out is just to report her – you’ll know soon enough if those items were removed or allowed to stay. Disney and Marvel are two of the biggest names to go after copyright issues.
