30th Anniversary Collection of sealed John F. Kennedy Half Dollars?
I have a 30th Anniversary Collection of sealed John F. Kennedy Half Dollars. There are 30 coins (obviously) from years 1964 to 1994 sealed in plastic holders, set in a blue plastic holding tray inside a wooden box with metal clasp. There is a small chip in the blue plastic felt-finish tray, but otherwise the coins and case are in great condition. Is this something worth selling?
Here is a list of the coins that are in the case:
1964 1965 1966 1967 1968 D 1969 D 1970 S 1971 D 1972 D 1973 D 1974 D 1776-1976 D 1977 1978 1979 D 1980 P 1981 P 1981 P 1983 D 1984 P 1985 P 1986 P 1987 S 1988 P 1989 P 1990 D 1991 D 1992 P 1993 P 1994 P
This is a private set made by some company and is not a U.S. mint item. The 1/2 dollars were taken from circulation so they could be circulated or they may have bought uncirculated rolls to use in making the set. Value depends on the grade of each 1/2 dollar for a coin dealer would break up the set and sell them separately. Advanced coin collector do not buy private made sets. You would need to see a coin dealer to have the coins graded. The 1964 is 90% silver and the 1965-1970-S are 40% silver. The set is also not complete, some for some of the mints are missing. Such as the 1990-P or 1992-D. It is not a full set. Items like this are hype and are not good investments.
