is treasure hunters roadshow a rip off?
my wife and i took some old barbie dolls that she had as a little girl , all 1961 barbies, 1 barbie in large vinyl barbie case with metal stand , 1 ken with felt hair , and 1 midge in original box ,also had loads of clothing and accessories for all dolls. they asked what we wanted to sell them for and i replied for them to tell me what they were worth. well after looking on their computer for around 5 minutes they offered $25.00 for the whole mess. I TURNED THEM DOWN! we went to the book store to look up what some of the stuff was worth ,and the book said at the minimum we had $500.00 worth of things. heck one straw hat ( we have 2 ) is worth $30.00 to $40.00 alone, pair of shoes( 5 sets) $10.00 to $15.00 a set. i think they were trying to get over on my wife and me. what do you say?
Well, if they were out of the boxes, they lose something like 80% of their value. In order to get top dollar dolls have to be never removed from box (NRFB). The best way to value Barbie dolls is to look on ebay for what others are paying for that doll. It’s a matter of supply and demand. If there are tons of those dolls on the market, they won’t be very valuable! If Ithere are only a few on the market and a collector happens to be missing thatone doll, that doll would therefore become more valuable.
In order to look them up on ebay, you need to identify them first. You should go to the Barbie Collector website and find a certified Barbie retailer near you, then take the dolls into them to have them identified, and maybe even appraised. Sometimes Barbie retailers sell secondary market items, you could ask whether they would be interested in selling your dolls for you, of course you would have to pay them a percentage.
Good luck!
