Knitters…please tell me what I need………….?
My dad wants to know what I want for Christmas. I want to make the doll in this link. I have never crocheted/knitted. I don’t have any supplies at all. What do I need?

Crocheted dolls are also called amigurumi. Your local library should be able to get you a copy of “Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet” by Ana Paula Rimoli: http://www.martingale-pub.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=695 She also has a blog: http://amigurumipatterns.blogspot.com and an Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=9639 Or ask your dad to buy you the book for Christmas.
The basic skills you’ll need to learn are how to single crochet, increase, decrease, make a magic ring, and seam. See if your local yarn shop has classes. Or there are tutorials on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hKBeu2BlhU Here’s another tutorial: http://www.hookandneedles.com/2008/03/22/amigurumi-tutorial-1/
The basic supplies you’ll need are crochet hooks, yarn (cheap acrylic like Red Heart or Caron Simply Soft — you’ll need small amounts of several different colors), stuffing (fiberfill or pellets) and a large-eyed blunt yarn needle (also called darning needle or tapestry needle): http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat2874&PRODID=prd2741
